How to Set Up a Resource Table

Secure the best literature:

This should be the job of the pastors, or somebody designated by them, even if the project is underwritten by individuals or sub-groups in the church. We suggest that only the clearest and best materials be used. What you put out reflects on your church and all believers. Every item should be about the gospel. Please do not put other doctrinal items on the table. You may put them some other place for believers.

Include such items as the following:

  • An audio message or two from one of your pastors. This can be on a CD or cassette, or both. You may wish to vary the messages from time to time. Remember, it needs to clearly explain the gospel.

  • Books, booklets and tracts. Only use the most helpful items. From our viewpoint, it is somewhat important that the items be attractive. Though the Spirit can certainly get around this to do His work, the quality of the materials we use does reflect on the church in general. Make sure that the items you choose explain the gospel in a way that you value.

  • Apologetic materials. There are numerous solid booklets these days that answer the basic apologetic questions many people have. For instance, "Is the Bible true?", "Was Christ really God?", etc. This need may also be addressed through handouts you can photocopy.

  • Children's materials. They need the gospel also.

  • Pertinent articles on the gospel from the internet, or taken from books and magazines. This can provide opportunity to put out new items periodically.

  • Information about baptism. Though baptism does not save or even help to save, it is nonetheless very closely related to evangelism. Often people considering Christ have questions about either their "infant baptism" or how baptism relates to being a Christian.

  • Inexpensive New Testaments/Bibles. There is nothing better than the Bible in evangelism. We suggest that you put out copies that are in the same translation that is used for preaching in your church. In this way, new people can follow along better.

  • Gospel handouts written by your pastors, etc.
